One year ago today, I met my bestest friend.
Our first date
Both new in town, we found each other on Meetup.com. We were instant friends and barely talked to any of the other people in the group. We booked our second date right away—dinner the following week. It was the first of many weekly dinners—a standing date for “Monday Night Dinner” with my BFF.
We bonded fast.
Over things like running . . .
and wine . . .
Mid-Western roots . . .
Dancing . . .
And more wine.
She’s always up for anything
and makes ordinary days feel special.
We’ve celebrated birthdays
She is silly
She buys me sunhats so people will stop “ma’am-ing” me
She makes me laugh
and try new things.
She poses for cheesy photos for the blog
and cheers me on no matter what.
She does goofy things with me that no one else will do . . . like playing board games . . .
and climbing things.
She knows when I need a cocktail
and when I need someone to listen.
She does ridiculous things with me
She welcomed me into her little family
and made me smile when I couldn’t find anything to smile about.
and for that, I am eternally grateful. I don’t know how I got so lucky, but I couldn’t have asked for a better friend.
She’s going through a tough time right now, and I hate it that I can’t be there with her. But Danielle, I hope you know that wherever we are . . .
You’re in my heart.
I love you, friend!
