Stick a Fork In Me

Oh my heavens. I decided to venture out of the hotel room tonight in search of local fare, and well, it was easily the best decision I made all day.

Because it sure wasn’t this outfit.

When you’re in a big city, there are a lot of characters on the street. So you know you look completely ridiculous when you’re one of the people getting looks. Whatevs. Fluorescent orange shoes and lime green tops with leggings are all the rage. These people are behind the times. 006

I’m sure my lack of makeup and foofy hair had nothing to do with it, either. Winking smile

Anyway . . .

Right across the street from my hotel, I noticed a creperie the last time I was here. I tend to be incredibly boring when I travel and eat at chains, which is really stupid. Really really stupid. I mean, if a restaurant can make it in downtown DC, it has to be pretty good, right? Right???

End the dumb era of my travel dining. No more chains. Well, never say never, but my dinner tonight? Awesome. It kicked my Cosi pizza’s ass.

Point Chaud Café  & Crepes offers both sweet and savory crepes (plus gelato, but I need to fit into my skirt tomorrow). This is the perfect scenario—dinner and dessert. Open-mouthed smile

Let the hotel bed picnic begin!011

First, a cocktail.

And then some sweet moves to ensure that my dessert stays slightly warm while I devour my dinner.

A pillow cozy felt like the right thing to do.

For dinner, I chose a whole wheat crepe with caramelized onions, spinach, tomatoes and herbed feta.

At first look, nothing special . . .

But check out the goods!

Fresh, light and flavorful.

Then it was onto the sweet because let’s face it, that’s what I’m really here for.

That swirly stuff on top? That means, “I’m filled with Nutella, bitches.” Yeah.

And this insanity is what I found inside. Banana. Coconut. Nutella.

Stick a fork in me.

And I discovered that I don’t care all that much about the actual crepe. I’m really more about the filling. I mean, the crepe is good, but it doesn’t taste like much. So I ended up scraping out most of the insides and leaving the poor little crepe carcass behind. Hey, it’s my crepe, and I’ll devour it as I see fit!

Time to sip on my vino and catch the Wednesday night comedies! Smile

When you travel, do you stick to chains or sample the local fare?

Strangely, I only (used to) do the chain thing when I was traveling for work. When I’m on vacation, I want to try new places. I’m such a weirdo!

    • Finalmente proprio FPS come qestui ci aspettavamo su wii!!!

  1. Oh my god, I am laughing at you putting your crepe under your pillow. Genius! I like to try new restaurants, unless I am somewhere sketch. Then I stick to basics!

  2. One of the things I love about traveling for work is getting to try little local places and unique foods that I wouldn’t necessarily try at home! The food you got looks DELICIOUS!

  3. I always always try the local fare when I travel. you experience the whole culture so much more if you try to eat what the locals eat. I am currently in India and even when I cook at home I mostly stick to Indian dishes such as dal, curried veggies etc. i exchange recipes with work colleagues- so much fun! i love your blog- stop by mine sometime 😉
