Call for Snacks

Although it’s mildly stressing me out (really, what doesn’t stress me out???), I know planning out all of my meals ahead of time is definitely a good thing. It might actually force me to make a shopping list and use up all of my groceries–what a novel idea!

Since I haven’t been good about meal planning in quite some time, I’ve been scouring the inter webs for new, healthy dinner ideas. I’ve found quite a few!

So, yes, I’m on the hunt for healthy and tasty recipes–please send your favorites my way! I also need snack ideas. I’m only in day 3 of this “eat all the time” snacking thing, and I’m already bored with my snacks. So far, I’m eating greek yogurt with fruit, cottage cheese with fruit, hummus and veggies, crackers with Laughing Cow cheese, and apples with string cheese. Yes, all that variety, and I’m bored. Oops. Maybe if I get excited about snacks, I’ll be more excited about eating them? It’s not that I don’t love to eat, but when I’m not really hungry and my snack doesn’t sound all that good, eating kind of feels like a chore. Definitely strange!


Demon Back Injury Update

I think I’m on the mend! After yoga yesterday, I was a little sore, but much less so than I had been. This morning, I did Jillian Michaels No More Trouble Zones. I was a little nervous to do the lunges, so I modified them a bit, but I didn’t have any pain. And now? I actually feel better!!! My back is barely sore at all! Could working out be the solution to this? I mean, I’m being careful and everything, and I know my back isn’t 100% yet. It’s not like I have 7 miles on the books for tomorrow or anything, but I’m finally starting to feel hopeful that I might still be able to run the marathon.

I’m not doing any running just yet, but I think I’ll be ready to again soon! Woot!

  1. some of my favorite snacks include: hard boiled eggs, greek yogurt “ranch” with veggies, smoothies, protein pizookie (, larabar balls (, banana & peanut butter, granola, trail mix, luna or lara bars… the list goes on. i really just try to be creative and mix things up so i don’t get bored. check out my my snacks page for more ideas!

  2. I hope you get better soon, being sidelined sucks. You could also do some almonds or pistachios, spoonfuls of nut butters, baby carrots, or Google Jamie Eason Live Fit and go to the page – it has some recipes on it for protein bars and the carrot & pumpkin ones are delightful!

      • I know! I go to the grocery store a lot during the week for my lunch break and end up spending $40 on random stuff when I’m just going there to pick up a pre-made salad. If you wanna go cheaper, you can just to regular plain yogurt too. Not as much protein and harder to find BUT lower in calories and cheaper. It’s a trade off.

  3. Melissa, I am just catching up with blogs after my vacation…..and I am SO SO SORRY about your back/SI join injury!!!!!!!!!!!

    That broke my heart and made me really bummed. I know how amazing your training had been going, how frustrating to have a little setback. But, the important thing is that you’re resting it up and hopefully you should be able to jump back into things in no time. I don’t know anything about back injuries….but I hope it heals up as soon as possible!

    Hmmm, good snack ideas… I pretty much snack on plain carrots, fruit, bell peppers, etc so I’m not a great person to ask. BUT, here is my one idea: cooked brown rice mixed with cottage cheese, raisins and cinnamon. Put it in the microwave for 60 seconds (stirring halfway through)… and you have a nice warm version or rice pudding.

  5. Oh, I forgot…this is going to sound weird but it’s delicious. Mix cottage cheese with some canned pumpkin, cinnamon, and a packet of Splenda. It tastes like pumpkin pie. SO good. And if you mix it till it’s all creamy-like, it’s even better.

  6. Wow…awesome. I hope the healing process continues without any problems girlie!
    One of my favorite snacks is these mini individual fruit cups from Dole (in it’s own natural juices) they sell here at our version of Costco. They are perfect to store anywhere – the car, office or at home and they are a sweet treat with only 60 calories!

  7. Glad you are starting to feel better! Um, we should probably meet up at a race some time this year, too. Anything in particular you are doing in MI?

    Some snacks I’m loving right now: Emerald dark chocolate almonds, chocolate chip cookie dough Lara bars, blood oranges, and cereal! Also, I’m thinking of making a batch of peanut butter protein bars from the blog Blonde Ponytail soon.

    • Ooh, dark chocolate almonds! Those sound like crack!!!

      I don’t have any races picked out in MI yet. I may have to reschedule my marathon to one in Michigan in May or June, though. 😦 Anything you’ve got your eye on?
